Clonazepam to Replace Club Drug Rohypnol
Last Updated on Tuesday, 27 April 2010 01:13 Written by Nic Sunday, 31 January 2010 11:44
In the state of California, the popularity of club drugs has been moderate but as the days are passing the popularity of these drugs are heading skywards. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department has reported that the major threat of club drug addiction comes from the drugs like MDMA, Rohypnol, Ketamine and GHB. The maximum use of these club drugs has been found to be among the teens and young adults of California. The biggest threats however are GHB and Ketamine amongst these club addiction drugs. Reports also claim that GHB is very much produced within the state itself and recent reports have also revealed that drug incidents of Clonazepam and Ketamine has increased quite much in California. All
these club drug disclosures of California by the San Diego Sheriff Department have been further confirmed by the reports of the Chula Vista Police Department.
The Chula Vista Police Department added that the state has been a victim to a heavy influx of these drugs from outside and are these drugs are more commonly found in the county than they are found within the city. The scariest report was that that the drug Rohypnol is being used in schools as well. Maximum quantities of the Rohypnol drug in California are sourced from Mexico. The prescription drug Clonazepam which is equivalent to the other pharmacological drugs like Diazepine and Benzodiazepine is mainly used as an anticonvulsant. This drug has been seized in high schools, in both the junior and senior standards. The drug does not cause smoky or red eyes which are mainly found after using marijuana. When the heroin drug addicts cannot afford heroin they resort to Clonazepam or Klonopin.
Many a times Clonazepam is also used for replicating the effects of the date rape drug Rohypnol. Clonazepam is being brought in large amounts from Mexico to California by the teens and adults. This drug sells very cheap at only one dollar for a pill. So, it is also often called as the ‘dollar date’ in the state and the nation. A report of 1999 revealed by the Texas Commission of Drug and Alcohol Abuse said that criminal gangs of Mexico are in full swing to replace the club drug Rohypnol with prescription drug Clonazepam. Seeing the rise in the abuse of these drugs, the San Diego City Council made an emergency law declaring it illegal to possess Clonazepam sans prescription. The authorities of California suspect that this prescription drug is mostly used by the sexual predators and is the most prevalent amongst youth.

Who are the Prime Drug Threats of California?
Last Updated on Tuesday, 27 April 2010 01:17 Written by Nic Tuesday, 26 January 2010 08:52
The prime drug threat in the state of California is Methamphetamine. With the Mexican drug organizations dominating the California drug market, high quality Methamphetamine has become very easily available in the market. While one group of this giant organization deals with the production of this drug, there is another group which operates the small clandestine laboratories. These unsophisticated laboratories have mushroomed all over the state be it in the highly populated areas, the sparse density neighborhoods, the remote deserts of South California or the forested lands in the northern part. The successful law enforcement in certain areas of the state has at least lessened the supply of the drug
pseudoephedrine which is smuggled in from Canada. However, this drug and another by the name of ephedrine is also smuggled in from China and these two Chinese drugs have been seized in the state several times.
The Mexican drug trafficking organizations of California work in close connection with the suppliers from Colombia. These two groups together dominate the wholesale market of cocaine in California. The Mexican drug suppliers specialize in cross border smuggling of cocaine by sea, air or land. Los Angeles is one of the most vulnerable areas where drug smuggling and other drug crimes are concerned. There are several dominating gangs settled in Los Angeles, most of who are street level distributers of the popular drug crack cocaine. This drug finds most of its buyers in the Los Angeles area itself of the metropolitan zones of San Diego. These gangs buy the cocaine drug in the rocked form which they then convert into the crack form in Los Angeles. This crack cocaine which is locally converted in Los Angeles is then distributed to the several other cities of California. Sometimes, this crack version is also sold out nationally.
After the terror attacks of Sept 11, 2001 border crossing security has gone stricter manifolds. Yet smugglers have found their own secure ways by digging underground tunnels and smuggling the drugs through them. The hidden compartments where these illegal drugs are hidden are also made very sophisticatedly which will not leave any doubt even on the smartest minds. Majority of the drugs in California are first collected in the Los Angeles, from where the drug is distributed elsewhere within the state. Despite the strong security and surveillance in the airports of San Francisco, Sacramento and Oakland, massive quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin are smuggled into these places.

The Drug Law Enforcement Measures of California
Last Updated on Monday, 25 January 2010 08:33 Written by Nic Monday, 25 January 2010 08:33
Drug crimes have reached a peak in California in these last few years. To counter this drug smuggling in the state, several federal as well as state law enforcement agencies have been set up. This has been done to curb the overwhelming drug related crimes in the several towns and cities of the state. A number of mobile enforcement teams have been employed throughout the state of California to fight this growing concern of drug crimes. Besides, these state enforcement teams, the DEA has also come on a full swing to give the drug organizations of California a tough fight. In the last two decades, the state of California experienced a bloodcurdling 25 times increase in the drug crime convictions. These record number of convictions shot up the state’s position to number one in the whole nation. The drug offender incarceration rate of California was counted to be 115 per 100,000 of the total population, which is actually more than two times the national average.
This unequalled increase in the imprisonment rate in the state can be attributed to the rise in the drug arrests in the last few years. The escalating arrests relating to drug crimes have compelled the law makers to toughen up the sentencing laws all the more. After all, most of the drug crimes that have been recorded in the state in the last few years include prison-eligible offenders involved with illicit drug use. The unique and harsh punishments or sentencing terms for drug offences in California is thought to be deterring. This promotes more and more arrests and imprisonments which are hoped to dissuade the misuse of drugs in the state and consequently lower the street crimes by removing the offender from the state’s community. Although the laws relating to drug abuse have been established by the California state legislature itself, the arrests and sentencing decisions lie with the individual counties.
The counties of California pursue the drug policy enforcements in different ways which are sharply contrasting from one another. These sharp contrasting ways have created wide variations on how the drug laws are implemented in the different counties of the state. For example, the San Francisco County has increased the drug arrests and made the prosecutions more severe for the manufacturers and dealers of drugs. However, they have minimized many of the sentencing terms or penalties for the possession of drugs. However, the crime report studies have also revealed that stricter laws haven’t really been that powerful yet in declining the drug crimes in California.
