Clonazepam to Replace Club Drug Rohypnol

In the state of California, the popularity of club drugs has been moderate but as the days are passing the popularity of these drugs are heading skywards. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department has reported that the major threat of club drug addiction comes from the drugs like MDMA, Rohypnol, Ketamine and GHB. The maximum use of these club drugs has been found to be among the teens and young adults of California. The biggest threats however are GHB and Ketamine amongst these club addiction drugs. Reports also claim that GHB is very much produced within the state itself and recent reports have also revealed that drug incidents of Clonazepam and Ketamine has increased quite much in California. The Chula Vista Police Department added that the state has been a victim to a heavy influx of these drugs from outside and are these drugs are more commonly found in the county than they are found within the city. The scariest report was that that the drug Rohypnol is being used in schools as well. Maximum quantities of the Rohypnol drug in California are sourced from Mexico. The prescription drug Clonazepam which is equivalent to the other pharmacological drugs like Diazepine and Benzodiazepine is mainly used as an anticonvulsant. This drug has been seized in high schools, in both the junior and senior standards. The drug does not cause smoky or red eyes which are mainly found after using marijuana. When the heroin drug addicts cannot afford heroin they resort to Clonazepam or Klonopin.

Many a times Clonazepam is also used for replicating the effects of the date rape drug Rohypnol. Clonazepam is being brought in large amounts from Mexico to California by the teens and adults. This drug sells very cheap at only one dollar for a pill. So, it is also often called as the ‘dollar date’ in the state and the nation. A report of 1999 revealed by the Texas Commission of Drug and Alcohol Abuse said that criminal gangs of Mexico are in full swing to replace the club drug Rohypnol with prescription drug Clonazepam. Seeing the rise in the abuse of these drugs, the San Diego City Council made an emergency law declaring it illegal to possess Clonazepam sans prescription. The authorities of California suspect that this prescription drug is mostly used by the sexual predators and is the most prevalent amongst youth.
