Drug addiction has emerged as a major problem in California, wrecking a havoc number of arrests and imprisonments in the state. This has led to a massive drain of billions and billions of dollars, and as this drug crime scene in the state is darkening, the concerns over the problem of drug addiction are getting deeper. The saddest part is that that the state of California is currently suffering from the highest rate of deaths in the nation’s history, caused by drug abuse. But then of course, this could not have a discernible impact on the state and the drug crime rate is skyrocketing like never before. This observation was confirmed by a recent drug policy study conducted by the United States Department of Justice. Even though the drug crime arrests have shot up, laws made stricter than before and conviction sentences made more aggressive, the policies have not had much positive effects on the state’s crime scene. There are several drugs users in the state who are not deterred by these harsh outcomes of their crimes. Rather, it creates a resonating scenario where the accused appears before the courts repeatedly. Some studies have revealed that 60 percent of these opiate addicted parolees were again put up in the lock up within as less as 6 months of releasing them. Most of these cases were also dealing with crimes related to narcotics. The incarceration cost the state more than $27,000 for each parolee every year. The strategic location of California and its diverse population makes it very prone to illegal drug trade and these make the drug situation much more complicated in the state. While much of these drugs are sourced from Mexico, there are a few other drugs which are produced right here on the soils of California.
Take for example, the drugs like methamphetamine and Marijuana, both of which are produced locally in California in massive quantities. San Diego in California remains one of the hotspots of the state for illegal drug transfer from Mexico. The cocaine that is smuggled into the state is mainly of Columbian origin, even though it enters California via Mexico. The Mexican drug traffickers operate the cross border smuggling of this drug in the state. The Law enforcement agencies of California have seized the black tar heroin in several areas of the state. This drug is also sourced from Mexico. To a lesser extent, the brown tar heroin has also been seized by the law enforcement officers in some areas of California.
