The drug survey in California
A 12th biennial California Student Survey (CSS) was released by the Attorney General. It took me some moments before I could take in the startling facts and statistics. The state wide survey was conducted to have a clear idea of the drug abuse cases that happen in California. The survey was conducted in the year 2008-2009 and it included 13,930 students all from public, middle and high schools. It astonished my senses to notice that until now, the secondary school students are very much involved when it comes to the case of drug abuse. Children who are not matured enough have direct or indirect access to drug.
The research includes drug abuse in every case. It combines cases of first time alcohols, illicit use of medicated drugs to get high, illicit drugs and many more. A total percentage is calculated to find out the number of children who have responded to these temptations at least once in their life. The results will take your breath away.
The total percentage comes to be 60% of the 9th graders and a whooping 74% of 11th grade students. It will be heartening to note that not all these students go out to become regular drug users and a very prominent number of the students use drug only once. It is obvious from the way our society has been framed that the youth has always strived to break the norms of the society. It is this rebellious nature that lures them towards drugs. It becomes their way of challenging the society. Though the problem many a times take a severe turn, it does not necessarily mean that the drug causes problem to society or self. Many students fall into the trap of drug use because of addiction.
The one time high that they feel after using drugs, makes them return to it again and again. Another cause is that with the advent of time, things are becoming easier to access. The students can easily get hold of drugs if they have money. They can buy illicit drugs using false prescriptions or there is always some senior in the school who easily supplies drugs if given ample money. Any opposition which faces the youth sees u-turn because opposition puts them in rebellious form and that aggravates the problem. Drug abuse is a serious problem that has been facing California since a long time. Now it has even trapped the young children in its claws. We should take steps to cut down this problem once and for all.

Drug abuse problem is not something new in California. Since a long time, this state has seen countless cases of drug abuse. Any type of opposition has a boomerang effect. That means, the opposition will be met with skepticism. The minds of youths are very sensitive and it needs to be dealt with understanding and care. Putting undue restrictions and pressure will push the children more towards the temptation. The main idea is to tread very carefully on this path.
The first step that should be taken is to educate the children about the hazards of drug abuse. The children must be made to understand the problems that they might face if the are not careful with their lives. Educating the children about the hazards of drug abuse paves way for better understanding of the problem which might seem trivial to them. If their problem has become beyond your control, you must visit a doctor and get you child into rehabilitation centre. This will tend to the problem directly.
You must take interest in you child’s life. You should be fully informed about who the child is meeting, what kid of friends they are having, what is going on in their lives. Prevention and cure, both should start from the home. If the child is given love and care, he will be least likely to seek high in any drugs. See to it that you child is having a healthy childhood. Being a responsible parent will solve half of your problems. Keep yourself updated about your child’s academic life. If you notice any sudden change in behavior or nervousness, then you must dwell into the details of the matter. Do not give large amount of pocket money as a substitute for the time you can not spend with him, try to spend more time rather than money. Keeping track of you child’s life will keep him away from the problems of drug abuse.

Finally, society should show concern and provide ways to get relief from these drug cases and therefore provide the ways to resolve this and remove the evils finally.

I remember it was a bright sunny day and I was just glancing through one of the branded California based news paper. There were the usual and general stories on entertainment, media and then there was a heart warming news. It was about a school girl trapped in the case of drug abuse and sent to drug rehab centre for medication and treatment. I asked my self a question then and there itself. Why we civilians are not joining hands to stop this nuisance against drug abuse? This is true that the important cases and drug abuse have been in rank high in California then other states. 
They have been lot of stories on drivers breaking the driving offences and later jailed or punished via penalty. It is also hard to believe that corruption has taken place to such an extent that more than half of the total California based youth would like to strive for these harm ful drugs. One can imagine the side effects and issues lied by using drugs like Cocaine and Heroine. Alcohol is also taken in large and available in bulk in black market to encourage the youth to get disarray and start getting use to it. It is sad to know that this chain starts from promoting the drugs as one of the medium to show luxury and royalty. Little that these kids know that the drugs intake is killing them and depriving them of the homely atmosphere and creating bulk social, family and their own self issues. Many of the brilliant students have got addicted to drugs via some anti social Medias and hence drug stake is at high in California.
I really say that the society and government have to really come up with a well documented policy on drug abuse establishing the fact that drug rehab centers should be strongly promoted and drug addict should be taught in schools with real life case studies and presentations. Online resources and experts advice also helps to educated against these drugs and help them know the root causes of these drug issues since birth.
Media also plays an important point and they should run social campaigns and invite celebrities to promote against drug abuses. They should publish daily articles on drugs. It is also advised that California based people should gather and do a weekly or monthly road show to show their concern towards drugs and helps to remove the evil of drug abuse
